One year ago today I published a diary titled Worst Thanksgiving Ever. Worst Thanksgiving Ever What a difference a year (and an election) makes.
This year I am happy as a clam. I woke up at the ungodly hour of 10am. The football games were blowouts but I loved them anyway. Republicans and Democrats alike seemed cautiously optimistic. The word Bush was unspoken, as were the words McCain and Obama.
Nobody seemed to give a shit that wars rage on, or that the economy is in the tank, or that civil liberties had been violated and torture took place on our behalf.
There was an unspoken sigh of relief. Everyone knew things suck but also realized that our long national nightmare will be over very soon. I even caught a sly wink and nod from hardcore GOPers that seemed to say "yeah, we voted against your guy, but we're kinda glad he won."
What a difference a year makes indeed. Happy Thanksgiving to all.
